Foodies shocked as the ‘correct’ way to eat KitKat is revealed

Why are we here? Do socks go with sandals? And perhaps more importantly, what is the right way to eat a KitKat?

After a week of tense debate, one of life’s great questions has been answered, but not everyone is happy about the revelation. The team at KitKat has announced the ‘correct’ way to enjoy its 4-finger bars – the ‘Break, Snap and Enjoy’ method – break off each finger, snap it in half and savour the wafery-chocolatey goodness.

However, 41% of Aussies disagree with this approach, showing that fans are not ready to give up their unique eating rituals.

The announcement sparked lively online debate with 59% of Aussies saying they would get the ‘ick’ if someone ate a KitKat differently.

Nestlé Confectionery Marketing Manager Shannon Wright said, “After years of fun and friendly debate, we felt it was time to finally share the truth with the nation and announce how a KitKat is meant to be enjoyed. It seems however, that debate will always rage on the best way to enjoy your KitKat!”

Wright continued, “Ultimately, whether you bite, break, or even get out a knife and fork – what really matters is that everyone takes a break and enjoys a moment for themselves.”

It's been eight years since Kourtney Kardashian posted her iconic ‘6 Steps to Eating a KitKat’ video. Now, some of Australia’s biggest content creators have followed suit with posts from Bec Hardgrave reigniting love for the Kardashian method; comedy queen Georgia McCudden championing the singular bite approach, even foodie creators Tay & Josh vouch for a KitKat and date combo.

Aussies are particularly adventurous with their eating habits with almost 20% having tried the KitKat-Ketchup trend (yep – eating a KitKat with ketchup, that's a thing!) and some even admit to eating their KitKat in secret because of the weird way they like to enjoy it – take Mates RatesKitKat Schnitzel for example.
