New trucks improve efficiency

A partnership between UNCLE TOBYS cereals and snacks factory at Wahgunyah on the NSW and Victorian border and a major customer and transport supplier has resulted in an innovative project to improve the efficiency of truck movements.

The project aimed to transport greater volumes of high-value, light-weight freight to customers while reducing the number of trucks on the road by 15%, along with other benefits.

As a result of the collaboration, new Hi-Cube semi-trailers were designed and built to carry more product. Instead of transporting between 44 and 68 pallets the new trucks can carry up to 88 pallets.

Other significant benefits of the project include:

  • 22% reduction in greenhouse gases equalling around 630 tonnes of CO2
  • 875 less trucks on the road annually
  • 20,000 litres less fuel per year
  • Improved driver safety
  • More efficient truck movements
