Fast Facts - Summer Shape-Up

Nestlé and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) appreciates that summer is a great time to get in shape.

Louise Burke, head of Sports Nutrition at the AIS, says that summer weather helps entice inactive bodies outside and the abundance of summer fruits and vegetables makes it easy to prepare tasty and nutritious meals.

As the weather heats up, lighter, flavoursome meals which can be prepared without labouring in a hot kitchen become appealing. Salads are a great option for summer - they are prepared in minutes, are versatile and with smart ingredient selection can be a nutrient-packed option.

When making salads, choose the freshest ingredients and prepare just before serving. When flavouring salads use a dash of high-fat ingredients such as oil and mayonnaise or substitute lower-fat alternatives. Include a carbohydrate source such as noodles, pasta, potato, rice or bread to turn your salad from an accompaniment to a satisfying meal.
