Fast Facts - Sporty Kids

Kids who participate in sport regularly have increased nutritional needs and it's up to mums and dads to make sure these needs are looked after.

Nestlé, through its association with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), appreciates that children who are regularly playing their favourite sports should pay particular attention to their nutritional needs.

Louise Burke, head of Sports Nutrition at the AIS says that keeping our kids active and well-fuelled is incredibly important.

Active kids need to drink plenty of fluid both during and after sport to replace sweat loss. Their muscles are also fuel-hungry so their main meal should be carbohydrate-rich. They should also snack on nutritious, high-carbohydrate foods between meals.

Kids can learn about good eating and drinking habits for their sport in a way that makes nutrition fun and rewarding. If they discover that eating well can help them win and enjoy their sport more, they will be more likely to aim for good eating habits for the rest of their life.
