Visit the Australian Institute of Sport, and get Australia's fittest tour guides!
Elite athletes may start with natural ability, but they need world-class training to develop their full potential. If you have ever wondered what it takes to become an elite athlete, the AIS in Canberra is the best place to find out.
When visiting the AIS, you will be guided around the world class facilities by one of these elite athletes. The advantage of having athletes as a guide is that you are shown how they train and prepare for big events by someone who's part of the process.
They will show you where they train and give you a unique insight into the life of a top Australian sportsperson. You can watch our gymnasts in training, see some of Australia's top swimmers doing their laps or bump into a world-champion jogging through the Institute.
See how good you really are
A tour of the AIS includes Sportex, an interactive exhibition. See how you would measure up to an elite athlete or discover how you would fare as a wheelchair basketballer, a rower or a golfer. Sportex also features sports medicine and nutrition displays, and a "legends" tribute to some of Australia's greatest champions. Don Bradman's bat, Heather McKay's squash medals and Betty Cuthbert's running shoes are on display along with video footage showing these legends in action.
